Implant-supported Dentures for a Confident Smile
At South Hills Dental Arts in Sewickley, we believe your smile should help you live confidently — not hold you back. Snap-In Implant Dentures (also known as implant-retained dentures) are a modern alternative to traditional dentures, offering the perfect balance of comfort, security, and natural function.
What Are Snap-In Implant Dentures?
Snap-In Implant Dentures are custom dentures that “snap” securely onto dental implants placed in your jawbone. These special fittings allow your dentures to attach firmly to the implants — giving you a smile that looks, feels, and functions more like natural teeth.
Benefits of Snap-In Implant Dentures
- Enjoy More of Your Favorite Foods: Securely anchored dentures restore real chewing power — so you can bite, chew, and enjoy meals confidently again.
- Non-Removable Stability: Unlike traditional dentures, these don’t come in and out daily. They stay in place for a secure, natural feel.
- Smile and Laugh Without Worry: Snap-In Dentures give you the confidence to laugh, talk, and socialize without fear of your dentures slipping.
- Live More Comfortably: Because the dentures move less, you experience less rubbing, irritation, and chafing.
- Better Nutrition and Digestion: With improved chewing ability, you can enjoy a healthier, more balanced diet.
- Great Option for Low Bone Volume: Ideal for patients who’ve been told they don’t have enough bone for traditional implants.
- Reduce Bone Loss: Dental implants stimulate your jawbone, encouraging it to stay healthy and strong — helping prevent long-term bone deterioration.
- Reduce or Eliminate Gagging: In many cases, a portion of the palate can be removed, reducing or eliminating gagging and enhancing comfort.
- Increased Comfort: With reduced denture movement, you’ll experience less irritation and soreness.
- Taste Your Food Better: Some patients can have part of their upper denture’s palate removed, allowing for improved taste and temperature sensation.
Snap-In Implant Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures can restore appearance but often struggle to deliver reliable comfort or stability. Snap-In Dentures help resolve nearly all the challenges that come with conventional dentures.

Shortfalls of Traditional (Non-implant) Dentures
- Limited Chewing Power: Only 10–20% of natural bite strength, making it hard to eat many foods.
- Speech Difficulties: Dentures can shift, affecting clarity and confidence.
- Embarrassment: Fear of dentures slipping during meals or conversation.
- Discomfort: Movement often leads to gum irritation and soreness.
- Poor Nutrition: Reduced chewing ability limits healthy food choices.
- Bone Loss: Jawbone resorption continues over time, loosening dentures.
- Gagging: Palate coverage for suction can trigger gagging and reduce taste.
Snap-In Implant Dentures dramatically improve all these concerns by providing a stable, long-lasting solution that feels more natural.
Am I a Candidate?
Most patients are excellent candidates for Snap-In Implant Dentures!
At your consultation in our Sewickley office, we will:
- Take a 3D digital scan of your jawbones
- Perform a complete oral evaluation
- Review your medical and dental history
- Discuss your goals and create a personalized treatment plan
Even if you’ve been told you don’t have enough bone for traditional implants, newer implant options may still make you a great candidate.

Snap-In Implant Dentures Procedure Timeline
The entire process typically takes about 6 months from start to finish.
Here’s what to expect:
Implant Placement Procedure
After any necessary extractions or preparatory oral surgery, implants are placed into your jawbone. They are left undisturbed for about 4 months to allow the bone to fuse with them (a process called osseointegration).
Post-Operative Appointment
We’ll see you the next day for a quick checkup to make sure you’re healing comfortably and that any temporary dentures fit properly.
Soft Liners / Re-Fittings
Soft liners are cushioning materials added to your dentures during healing. They fill in spaces caused by gum changes and improve comfort while your mouth adjusts.
Uncovery Procedure
Once the implants have integrated, we’ll expose them and place small healing abutments. This helps shape the gum tissue and prepares your mouth for the final step.
Attaching Your Dentures to the Implants
We’ll replace the healing abutments with denture abutments and attach your final custom dentures. This step often takes just one visit — giving you a secure, functional, and confident smile.
How Many Implants Will I Need?
- Upper - An upper implant denture requires at least 4 implants.
- Lower - A lower implant denture requires at least 2 implants, although 3 or 4 typically provide a significant improvement in retention and stability.
